My new addiction · Apr 30, 08:43 AM

...has got to be home-roasting.

Coffee beans, that is. I’d heard about it. I’d thought about it. And finally, this past Saturday, I took the plunge.

Bought me a pound of green (unroasted) Ethiopian/Tanzanian Peaberry blend from David at Fire Roasted Coffee Company, pulled out and dusted off the old hot air popcorn popper and tried my hand at it. Full instructions are here.

My first roast was a little light, but OH MAN was that coffee smooth! Then Sunday I decided to roast a little longer. I think that roast turned out somewhere between a Full City and an Italian Roast.

Next time, I’ll try and hit somewhere in between.

Does this make me a coffee snob?

  6. I got into a podcast a while back called CoffeeGeek that discusses coffee in a way that makes it incredibly interesting… I had to stop listening for a bit as the host did seem like the true “snob” you speak of… as during the Hurricane Katrina disaster, he was collecting money to help the coffee farmers of the world in this devastating event… ??? This put me off a bit, but his information about coffee is solid, his presentation is great and he will make comparisons to coffee as someone would for a complex beverage such as wine.

JiffyPop + Coffee beans! think about it!

  7. Drinking four or more cups of coffee a day may cut the risk of having a painful attack of gout, say Canadian scientists.
