It’s hard to believe, but tomorrow will mark the 1st anniversary of my dad’s passing. It’s certainly been an interesting year. And very different.
Birthdays, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas were all a little different this year. We’d think about things that Dad would say, or things that he’d do, or laugh while we fondly remembered all the stuff from so many years. We would remind Mom that Dad would “do it this way” or “wouldn’t put up with that crap”. I would have to say that I don’t think I’ve talked to my mom as frequently as I have this past year. I tried to call her every day, sometimes two or three times a day. I’m sure she gets a little tired of it, but she hasn’t said so.
Mom is doing well, thankfully. A couple weeks after the funeral, one of my mom and dad’s friends invited her on a cruise, to help take her mind off things and to help her get on with living. Just a short 4-day jaunt from NYC to Boston and Halifax and back to NYC. Independence Day Sampler they called it. We encouraged her to go for it, and in the end she’s glad she did.
When they arrived home, that same friend said “so what are you doing for New Year’s?” and proceeded to invite her along on another cruise, this time to someplace more tropical. But not quite the same ship. So she went from Boxing Day til Twelfth Night and had a great time, along with her sister and friends. Sadly, now she’s paying for it.
Anyway, I don’t really have a point to this posting. Just some random randomness. And to thank my friends for their kind words and dear friendships and the love they continue to communicate to us. It’s what gets us through difficult times.

Last time we visited, did I leave my pistol at your house? I just noticed that it isn’t in my coat pocket, and I’m pretty sure it isn’t in the diaper bag.
If you find it, you may want to be careful. It’s loaded.

Anyway, since we first met many moons ago online I’ve come to see you as more than just a friend. You are also an excellent source for cut-rate pies!
